PERMIT LIMITS

Gross Weight: 150,000 lbs or more requires an engineering study; no vehicle or combination of vehicles shall be operated on the highways of this state when the gross weight on the road surface through any wheel there of exceeds 600 lbs per inch width of tire.

The gross weight allowable shall be governed by the tires and axles, other than the front or steering axles.
*These are just guidelines, the gross weight depends on your axle spacings and axle configurations; the Department will decide if these weights are permissible. Anything over 125,000 lbs must go to bridge for analysis.
Length: 100' or more will require an engineering study
Width: 15' or more require an engineering study
Height: Over 14' are limited to short distances; the clearance of facilities and general safety of the traveling public are the governing factors in issuing over height permits
Permits are issued for loads having an origin or destination in the state or if travel through the state cannot be avoided.


PERMITS VALID FOR:
Single trip permits are valid for ten (10) working days.

OPERATING TIME
One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset; vehicles which are overweight only and are capable of traveling with the traffic flow are not restricted to daylight travel time.

WEEKEND TRAVEL
No weekend travel if load exceeds 10'6" wide, 100' long or 108,000 lbs.

DIVISIBLE LOADS
Permits shall not be issued covering loads that can reasonably be reduced to legal dimensions; all loads must be reduced to the absolute minimum.

EXCEPTIONS
Euclids, tournarockers, dumpsters, etc., traveling on a permit shall carry no load except parts or accessories pertaining to themselves; blades, buckets, etc. can remain attached.

INFORMATION NEEDED TO ORDER A WIDE LOAD, OVERSIZE AND HEAVY HAUL PERMIT
Description of vehicle and the load, applicant name and address, tractor information, weight, number of axles, Vermont fuel number (if applicable), trailer information, gross weight, overall dimensions, empty width/length, original origin, final destination and routes. Over length vehicles will need a diagram showing overhang dimensions, location of pivot points and axles. Over height will need a letter from all utilities involved. Over weight will need a diagram showing axle spacing, tire size and weight distribution.

Restricted Travel
Travel is restricted in the city of Rutland from 7:00 - 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 - 6:00 P.M Monday through Friday. All other restrictions will be noted on permit. Permits will not be issued for movements of loads in excess of 108,000 lbs or over 10'6" wide or 100' long on Friday afternoons, Saturday or Sunday and between Memorial Day and Labor Day

SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
Roads may be posted for reduced weight during spring thaw

Overweight, Oversized & Wide Load Super Loads
Width - 15' or more except on town highways
Length - 100' or more except on town highways
Height - 14' or more except on town highways
Weight - 150,000 lbs or more except on town highways

Fee is minimum of $400; drawings are required showing the load, configurations of equipment and weight distribution, allow at least ten (10) working days for processing.
